The history of the Shimen Reservoir dates back to the Japanese colonial period. In the late 1950s, the construction was promoted by the government of the Republic of China with technical assistance from the United States.
After years of construction and major engineering changes—from an arch dam to an embankment dam—the reservoir was completed and inaugurated on June 14, 1964.
This was Taiwan's first multi-purpose reservoir, serving functions including irrigation, power generation, water supply, flood control, and tourism. It has played a crucial role in Taiwan’s water resource development and regional growth.
This Hash trail passes through the maple forest trail around Shimen Reservoir, offering a peaceful, shaded path, and also takes runners into the Xiaozhukeng Historic Trail.
Jog or walk through a pristine forest path surrounded by birdsong, flowing streams, and gentle mountain breezes.
As you weave through the jungle canopy, breathe in the oxygen-rich fresh air, absorb phytoncides, and enjoy sweeping views of the beautiful Shimen Reservoir from above.
Finally, the route loops back to the start/finish point at Taipingshan Park, where we’ll share local snacks and Taiwan’s best beer.
Let’s talk, laugh, and play Down Down games together.
Immerse yourself in the embrace of nature and enjoy it to the fullest!

Picture this: crisp mountain air filling your lungs as you run through scenic forest trails, past the majestic National Palace Museum and into the rolling hills that surround Wai Shuang Xi—Jiannan Mountain, Wenjian Mountain, and much more. You’ll follow crystal streams, winding paths, and discover Taipei’s hidden natural gems.
Welcome to the Trail Run presented by Taiwan Hash House Harrier (former name China Hash House Harrier)—an urban trail adventure that fuses culture, nature, and the thrill of the outdoors. Designed for runners of all levels, this route offers sweat, smiles, and stunning views as you explore a whole new side of the city.
Route Highlights: Where Culture Meets Wilderness
We’ve crafted two unforgettable routes for this event—whether you're a seasoned trail runner or just looking for a scenic jog, there’s something here for you!
L Route: Challenge Yourself!
This long route is made for experienced runners looking for a serious workout. Covering roughly 11 kilometers of steep, technical terrain, the path winds through lush forests, rocky inclines, and narrow mountain ridges. Starting from Wai Shuang Xi, you'll pass the green spaces surrounding the National Palace Museum before ascending into deeper wilderness.
With each step, you’ll feel the thrill of pushing your limits—then, standing at the ridgeline, you'll be rewarded with sweeping views over the Taipei Basin. It's a physical and mental journey you won’t forget.
Relax and Enjoy the Scenery
Looking for a more relaxed adventure? The 7km short route offers an easier, family-friendly trail that’s perfect for nature lovers. The path follows shaded woodland trails and quiet riverside paths along Wai Shuang Xi’s gentle stream. Birdsong, rustling leaves, and dappled sunlight set the scene as you pass cultural landmarks like the National Palace Museum from a new perspective—blending history and nature in a uniquely Taipei experience.
Why Wai Shuang Xi?
Wai Shuang Xi, located in Taipei’s Shilin District, is a rare escape right inside the city. It offers a seamless blend of accessibility, forested trails, and cultural depth. The iconic National Palace Museum—one of Taiwan’s most treasured cultural sites—serves as both a landmark and a symbolic starting point for our run. Unlike typical mountain routes, the trails here offer a unique “run through culture” experience, combining urban charm with raw natural beauty.
Let TwH3’s senior trail guru – Weaping Pussy and last-year GM Tiny Balls guide you through the best-kept secrets of Taipei’s mountain paths. Their expertise, humor, and love for the trail will turn your run into a truly unforgettable adventure.

🐰🍻 The Legendary “Five Wine Barrels Park” 🍻🐰
Nestled in Luzhu District, Taoyuan, this magical spot is basically the backyard of every local — the top choice for boozy picnics, outdoor hangs, and sneaky trail parties.
Sure, it was designed as an “ecological green lung,” but let’s be honest — to us, it’s more like a giant outdoor beer fridge: shady trails, hidden nooks, and plenty of room to crack open cold ones and get your trail buzz on.
Since its makeover in 2018, the place has only gotten better — not just for taking selfies, but for unleashing drunken hares and hounds into the wild. With forest vibes still intact, you can hike through the earthy aroma of nature while sipping your beer and saying, “Damn, this trail is smooth!”
💦 Showers and toilets? Yes.
🛤️ Scenic trails? Hell yes.
🪵 Open space? Enough for a full-body beer coma.
The best part? Low elevation pain, high alcohol gain — whether you’re here to sweat, chill, or straight-up drink yourself sideways, Five Boozy Barrels Hill has you covered — one barrel at a time. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
